Case Study National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration
Providing Engineering Support for NOAA Data and Information System
CUSTOMER MISSION
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Services (NESDIS) is responsible for managing data collected by the nation’s environmental satellite program and other sources.
OUR PURPOSE
The ASRC Federal team was tasked to provide spacecraft mission operations systems engineering under the NOAA/NESDIS Office. Our team is responsible for providing engineering analysis for Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellites (GOES) and Polar Operational Environmental Satellites (POES) series of spacecraft and payloads, the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (SNPP) satellite as well as the Deep Space Climate Observatory (DSCOVR) spacecraft. In short, we are the engineering team powering the weather maps and forecasts that drive our society every day.
Our Solutions
With many ASRC Federal personnel having over 20 years of direct NOAA experience, our team was able to support the successful launch of GOES-R as well as staffing and post-launch activities.
Recognized by OSPO for our work in successfully patching and rapid restorations to the service of the DSCOVR satellite.
Employed innovative ground systems engineering strategies to ensure the availability, integrity, and confidentiality of NOAA system components to fulfill mission goals.
Participated in multi-level agency review of the events leading up to the breakup of NOAA 16 satellite in space and designed a function to command decommissioning that would help prevent future breakups.
