March of Dimes 2024

The number of women who die due to childbirth complications continues to grow in the U.S., according to a 2023 report from the March of Dimes, which also highlighted preterm birth as one of the leading causes of infant death in the U.S.

In addition, the report identified a number of health disparities among Black, American Indian and Alaska Native women, including:

  • the highest rate of inadequate prenatal care
  • 54 percent more likely to have a preterm birth as compared to White women
  • a higher rate of maternal death and morbidity
  • a higher likelihood of having chronic health conditions that can lead to poor outcomes in pregnancy

During the spring, ASRC Federal joined the March of Dimes in its mission to end preventable maternal health risks and death, stop preterm birth and infant death and close the health equity gap for all families. ASRC Federal teams – comprised of more than 150 employees, friends and family members – in Washington, D.C., New Jersey, Alabama, Colorado, and Oklahoma, participated in the March of Dimes’ Annual March for Babies charity walk. Our support and sponsorship of this year’s campaign helped the organization raise more than $85,000, which will go towards maternal health equity initiatives and research, education and advocacy efforts. “The maternal health crisis in the U.S., particularly for Black and American Indian/Alaska Native women is devastating,” said Shaveta Joshi, chief human resources officer at ASRC Federal and chair of the Greater Washington Area March for Babies. “Our team wants to do our part to help close the healthcare equity gap, expand access and make maternal and infant health a priority for our Alaska Native shareholders, women of color and other groups disproportionately affected. We’re proud to partner with March of Dimes in their fight to ensure healthy outcomes for all moms and babies.”

Supporting March for Babies is one way that we demonstrate our values and honor our commitment to give back to the communities in which our employees work and live. Click here to learn more about ASRC Federal’s corporate responsibility programs.
