ASRC Federal recently launched a pilot program with DonorsChoose, a non-profit organization that strives to make it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need. DonorsChoose has a mission to move us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.
The initiative, which launched earlier this fall, helped fund 96 teacher projects that ranged from a variety of STEM programs to financial literacy to preserving Alaskan histories and stories. Participating ASRC Federal program teams from across the country were encouraged to select teacher projects in their local areas or that related to the type of work the program performs.
The schools impacted include elementary, middle, and high schools with the majority being in communities with low-income households.
“I was able to put money in the hands of communities and teachers that I really care about,” remarked Clay Morad, vice president in the space operating group working on the NOAA contract. “They all wrote personal responses and were very appreciative.”
A teacher from Innoko River School in Alaska wrote, “I am so happy to have this project funded for our students. It’s so important to record the sights, scenes, and stories from our Elders. I have wanted to this project for many years and hope we can continue it.”
“Thank you so much for supporting STEM,” writes a teacher at Cocoa Beach Junior Senior High in Florida. “I am extremely excited to bring woodworking into our program. Your generosity continues to amaze me! We have a great group of students and they will be excited to hear that they will get a chance to build catapults and trebuchets. We greatly appreciate your donations.”

- 95% of projects supported with >50% student population from low income households
